Meatballs with cabbage

If you're like me - don't like to wrap stuffed cabbage (Romanian "sarmale"), this recipe suits you perfectly :)

Meatballs composition
800 g minced turkey (or other meat you prefer)
100 g rice
1 egg
3 carrots, grated
1 large onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 red pepper, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
parsley / dill
black pepper
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2-3 tablespoons oil

Cabbage composition
1 large fresh cabbage / pickled, chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 carrot, grated
black pepper
5-6 tablespoons tomato paste
parsley / dill

Meatballs composition
In a saucepan / frying pan fry the onion in 2-3 tablespoons of oil, then add garlic, carrots and peppers, stirring with every vegetable introduced.
Then, add the washed rice,
tomato paste, and salt and black pepper to taste, leaving fried 2-3 minutes, then leave to cool.
Meanwhile, separately - in a bowl, mix the meat, egg and chopped herbs, then add cooled vegetable mixture and stir well.

Cabbage composition
In a bowl mix the cabbage, carrots, peppers, tomatoes and season (salt, black pepper). Then put half of the quantity at the bottom of a large pot.

Form balls from the meatballs composition and place in the pot.

Then cover them with remaining cabbage, add tomato paste (if done with sauerkraut, only 2 tablespoons of tomato paste is needed), add the herbs and pour water to cover the contents

and boil over moderate heat.

Serve with polenta and sour cream.
